Platform Engineer – Financial Services

We are partnering with a leading global financial-services organisation to recruit an experienced Platform Engineer for its London-based Infrastructure and Platform Engineering team.

This is a broad, hands-on position covering the design, engineering and support of private and public cloud platforms used across trading, middle-office, back-office and technology functions globally.

You will work across on-premise, hosted and public-cloud environments, helping the firm modernise its infrastructure through automation, orchestration and Infrastructure as Code. The role offers exposure to a varied technology estate, including Windows, virtualisation, Microsoft 365, Azure or AWS, Kubernetes and Generative AI.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and support secure, scalable infrastructure across on-premise and public-cloud environments.

• Engineer and maintain platforms supporting business-critical trading and operational services.

• Work across Windows Server, VMware, Hyper-V and container technologies including Kubernetes.

• Administer Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Entra ID, Teams and SharePoint Online.

• Translate technical and business requirements into reliable infrastructure solutions.

• Improve standardisation and repeatability through automation, orchestration and Infrastructure as Code.

• Integrate platforms with networking, security, load-balancing and high-availability services.

• Support both proprietary and commercial software environments.

• Contribute to new technology initiatives, including Generative AI capabilities.

• Provide high-quality support within a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment.

Required experience

• At least five years of experience in platform, infrastructure or systems engineering.

• Strong experience across the Microsoft server technology stack.

• Experience designing and supporting VMware and/or Microsoft Hyper-V environments.

• Knowledge of on-premise hardware deployments, ideally using HPE.

• Experience with public-cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure or AWS.

• Strong Microsoft 365 administration experience.

• Hands-on knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, source control and ServiceNow.

• Scripting or programming ability using PowerShell and/or Python.

• Familiarity with APIs and data formats such as JSON and YAML.

• Experience with Kubernetes or another container platform.

• Exposure to Generative AI technologies through Azure OpenAI, AWS or similar services.

• Previous experience within financial services or another highly regulated environment would be advantageous.

You will be an analytical and methodical engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges. You should be comfortable balancing advanced engineering and project work with the support of critical live services.

The successful candidate will communicate clearly, work effectively both independently and within a team, and remain calm in a high-pressure environment. You will also have a genuine interest in emerging technology and continuously look for ways to improve platform performance, resilience and efficiency.
