Location: UK
Opportunity: Confidential Search

The Opportunity

We are partnering with one of the UK's largest pension schemes to appoint an experienced Portfolio Manager to join its Investment Strategy team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the design, implementation and ongoing management of Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC) investment portfolios.

Working within a total portfolio management environment, you will contribute to strategic asset allocation, portfolio construction, investment implementation and thematic research. You will work closely with investment specialists across multiple asset classes to translate market insights and investment analysis into actionable portfolio decisions.

The successful candidate will bring strong market and macroeconomic judgement, advanced multi-asset portfolio expertise and the ability to influence investment decisions within a collaborative, long-term investment environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Management: Take ownership of specific DB and DC asset allocation solutions, including portfolio rebalancing and implementing changes to target allocations.

  • Strategic Asset Allocation: Contribute to strategic portfolio construction, expected return forecasting, scenario analysis, strategic portfolio reviews and asset class research.

  • Investment Implementation: Help shape mandate design and reviews, synthetic allocations and implementation strategies, making recommendations to improve investment processes.

  • Thematic Research: Lead research projects across strategic and cyclical asset allocation themes, generating insights to inform investment decisions.

  • Long-Term Forecasting: Develop and refine long-term capital market return forecasts and contribute to the enhancement of proprietary investment models.

  • Scenario & Stress Testing: Assess the potential impact of macroeconomic uncertainty and market events on portfolio performance and risk.

  • Portfolio Analysis: Produce high-quality quantitative and qualitative analysis to support investment decision-making across the organisation.

  • Investment Tools: Support the development and enhancement of portfolio management platforms and analytical tools.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong relationships with investment teams across fixed income, equities, private markets, treasury, trading, risk and investment operations.

  • Team Development: Review and guide the work of colleagues, sharing expertise and supporting the development of modelling, communication and investment judgement.

About You

You will be an experienced investment professional with a strong understanding of multi-asset portfolio management and institutional investment strategy.

Essential experience and capabilities include:

  • In-depth knowledge of at least two core areas of total portfolio management.

  • Advanced expertise in multi-asset portfolios, portfolio construction and strategic asset allocation.

  • A thorough understanding of investments across multiple asset classes, including areas such as LDI, equities, credit, private markets and derivatives.

  • Strong understanding of the drivers of investment risk and return.

  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to solve complex investment problems.

  • Strong market awareness and macroeconomic judgement.

  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to develop investment ideas that translate into practical portfolio changes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.

  • High professional and ethical standards, with a strong commitment to compliance.

  • A collaborative, hands-on approach and the ability to work effectively within a close-knit investment team.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within an investment institution, ideally with an institutional investment focus.

  • Professional investment qualifications such as CFA, CQF or CAIA.

  • FCA certification.

  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to join a substantial institutional investor with a long-term investment horizon and a broad, multi-asset remit.

The role offers exposure to strategic investment decisions across DB and DC portfolios, collaboration with specialist investment teams and the opportunity to contribute directly to portfolio construction, asset allocation and investment implementation.

You will have the scope to lead research initiatives, develop investment solutions and help shape portfolio management processes within a team focused on delivering long-term investment outcomes.
