Senior Underwriter - Commercial E&S Property

We're partnering with a rapidly growing specialty insurance platform that is seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter - Commercial E&S Property to join its expanding underwriting team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proven E&S property underwriting professional who enjoys underwriting complex catastrophe-exposed risks, developing strong wholesale broker relationships, and contributing to the growth of a high-performing specialty business. The role is fully remote and open to candidates located on the U.S. East Coast.

The Role

As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting a profitable portfolio of commercial E&S property business, with a particular focus on catastrophe-exposed risks. You'll work closely with wholesale broker partners to attract and evaluate quality submissions, structure coverage solutions, and deliver strong underwriting results.

In addition to managing your own book of business, you'll play an active role in mentoring junior team members and contributing to a collaborative and performance-driven culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite a profitable portfolio of primarily catastrophe-exposed commercial E&S property risks.
• Assess exposures, analyze risk characteristics, and apply disciplined pricing and underwriting judgment within delegated authority.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers to drive high-quality submission flow aligned with underwriting appetite.
• Respond promptly to broker inquiries and negotiate coverage structures, terms, and conditions to create mutually beneficial solutions.
• Manage and grow broker partnerships while executing a strategic production plan.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support portfolio performance and business objectives.
• Mentor and coach junior underwriters on technical underwriting and professional development.
• Contribute to a culture of accountability, teamwork, and underwriting excellence.

Ideal Candidate

• 7+ years of commercial property underwriting and/or wholesale brokerage experience.
• Demonstrated success developing and maintaining productive wholesale broker relationships.
• Strong communication, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-management skills.
• Deep technical expertise in commercial property underwriting, including catastrophe exposures, natural perils, occupancy-related hazards, coverage forms, and exclusions.
• Working knowledge of CAT portfolio management concepts and risk-adjusted pricing methodologies.
• Analytical and methodical underwriting approach with the ability to clearly articulate risk and pricing decisions.
• Ability to thrive in a performance-oriented environment with defined production and profitability goals.
• Strong technology aptitude with an interest in leveraging modern underwriting tools and platforms.
• Willingness to travel approximately 20% to support broker development and production objectives.
